1982- Hollywood
While doing thesis graduate work in California, I came across a book in the UCLA library entitled Only Victims, by Robert Vaughn, who had been the Man from U.N.C.L.E at one time (or one of them anyway). The book is, in short, about various Hollywood actors, actresses, directors and so on who were blacklisted during the so-called McCarthy era. I had also discovered the Hollywood Walk of Fame during this time and wondered if any of the subjects of Vaughn's book had a star, and the answer was "not many." So I resigned myself to Paul Robeson and a few others that were visually interesting, but not part of the blacklist.
