2009 - SLV
In 2009 my partner and I moved to an off-the-grid home in a remote part of southern Colorado, in the San Luis Valley. Here I continued with Polaroids. In 2008 I discovered the notion of desertification. While it is often associated with the encroachment of the Sahara into formerly sub-Saharan parts of Africa, "desertification" is also common worldwide. As such, desertification is more than a notion in the area that I call home nowadays. Inspired by work by Robert Adams (The Art And Architecture of Early Hispanic Colorado), Eric Paddock and Sam Bingham, I have found scenarios which often support the possibility that this area is indeed becoming a desert, or that its long-abandoned structures and settlements, often consisting of adobe, mark specific moments in which desertification has left its imprint.
